Review: Arcana - Strawberries Crave Waterfalls & Strawberries Crave Incense

So, several months ago an Indie perfumery name Arcana Soaps released a Summer Cravings collection. I was only just reacquainting myself with indie scents at the time and, while the collection didn't pass me by completely, I was certainly too slow off the mark to be encompassed by the crazy events that occurred.

The Summer Cravings release featured scents based around the notes peaches and strawberries and to say there was an insane demand for them is the understatement of the year. As I mentioned before, I was only just dipping my toe back into the indie rabbit hole, so by the time I realised OMG I NEED THESE SCENTS IN MY LIFE, unfortunately the majority of them had sold out.

However, the indie world is so accommodating to woes like these as so many people sell things they've bought and disliked. Thus, if there's a scent you missed out on and seriously covet, it's a good idea to cruise the interwebz in search of a destash.

I managed to pick up decants of Strawberries Crave Waterfalls and Strawberries Crave Incense during a "Sunday Swap" on the subreddit Indie Make-up and More. And OMG, I'm so pleased about this because I absolutely adore these scents! As I've already mentioned, they're both unavailable now, which is huge sadness as I would willingly buy full size bottles of them, but keep your eye out for people destashing if they tick all your boxes.

Strawberrie Crave Waterfalls: Rain, woodland strawberries, fresh water, petitgrain, osmanthus, clover, and smooth amber.

In the vial, this is fresh and clean. It's rain water with a hint of something floral. I detect no strawberries whatsoever, but I love what I'm smelling all the same.

On my skin, the watery floral scent remains for a couple of minutes, and then it turns slightly fruity. I get a little bit of strawberry, but for the most part there's a diluted freshness wafting around me. Around the ten minute mark this turns incredibly sweet on my skin and the strawberry becomes a whole lot stronger. This is all sugar but without being too sugary. How is that even possible? I get frequent wafts of jelly beans (not an artificial jelly bean... but like sticking your nose straight into a Jelly Belly jar), for about two hours, but every time I put my wrist to my nose, I get freshly picked strawberries. It's incredible. The throw is moderate for the first couple of hours and this lasts around five hours on my skin.

Summary: Fresh and watery to begin with, drying down to sweet, sugary strawberries.

Verdict: I really like this one and would definitely purchase a full bottle if I could. I love what I sniff in the vial, but that dry down is exquisite.

Strawberries Crave Incense: Burning frankincense and myrrh, rich red musk, and fraises des bois.

In the vial, I get green strawberries with a hint of something woody. I catch a slight whiff of incense every now and then, but mostly it's just woodland strawberries.

On my skin, this becomes quite musky and the wood note becomes a lot stronger. The strawberries fade considerably but I can definitely still detect them. As it dries I get a lot of incense and smoke, before this becomes all woodland strawberries again with a hint of musk. My partner hugged me around the hour mark and declared, "you smell like one of your incense sticks, mmmm!" The longer I wear this the sweeter the strawberries become and the combination of them and the red musk are a match made in heaven. I adore this scent! Throw is pretty high throughout (it wafts around me to begin with, and then I get frequent whiffs when I move my arms), and this lasts around six hours on my skin.

Summary: Woodland strawberries with a lot of musky incense.

Verdict: Easily one of my all time favourite scents. I wear this a lot at bedtime. It's the perfect scent for snuggling up at night and watching TV while I let my brain switch off and think only about sleep :) I would without doubt buy a full size bottle of this if I could.
