[Review] Poesie Perfume - Arctic Monkeys

Collection: Playlist Collection Summer 2015
Status: Available
Purchased: 2ml Bottle via Ajevie's Circles Group Order

Notes: Barely there, light violet floats over a blend of ripe unctuous banana and sweet warm amber, transforming what you think you know into something quite unique. Soft as the fur of a golden capuchin monkey, and wild as the beat of his heart. Perfect for lazing in the jungle, concrete or otherwise. Notes: creamy ripe banana, sweet amber, ethereal violet.

In the bottle: Violet and just-ripe bananas. It's floral and fruity in equal measures.

On my skin: This goes slightly herbal on me when first applied, but then the banana becomes a lot stronger. I get a touch of amber while wet, which is all warm and not too overpowering. As the scent dries everything becomes a lot creamier and I find myself catching wafts of that sweet amber throughout wear. If I close my eyes, I can imagine myself sunbathing in a garden full of beautiful flowers, whilst sipping a banana milkshake. This is such a lovely scent.

Throw: High
Longevity: 3-4 hours.

Summary: Very true to description. Violet, bananas and sweet warm amber throughout, becoming creamier as it wears.

Verdict: I really like this. I'm waffling on whether or not to buy a full size, but as it feels like more of a summer scent (well, it was part of a collection released during Summer), I think I'll probably hold off for the time being.

[Review] Arcana - Peppermint Candy Flip

Collection: Lady Justice
Status: Unavailable
Purchased: 1ml decant through Ajevie's Circles

Notes: A psychedelic blast of cold peppermint dries down to a trippy candy center of blue frosting, sugar cookies, pink musk, blueberry candy, bakery vanilla, bergamot syrup, and lemondrops.

In the vial: Very strong peppermint. There's a hint of lemon and I get something sweet, marginally resembling marshmallow.

On my skin: This becomes all about the citrus! My skin tends to amp citrus notes when first applied and for several minutes it overpowers the peppermint. This fades not long after though, and the dry down is a musky peppermint with the vanilla making an appearance and becoming stronger as it wears.

Throw: Low
Longevity: After four hours I get the faintest whiff of peppermint if I sniff my wrist

Summary: Heavy citrus and cool peppermint for starters, drying down to a minty, musky vanilla.

Verdict: While I don't hate this scent, I don't love it either. The citrus note is too overpowering on my skin and I can't see myself ever reaching for the vial again. I'll probably de-stash this.

[Review] Arcana - Gideon

Collection: Lady Justice
Status: Currently still available at The Rhinestone Housewife
Purchased: 1ml decant through Ajevie's Circles

Notes: Inspired by a spunky orange tabby kitten named after Gideon v. Wainwright. Apricots, golden amber and a saucerful of cream

In the vial: Dried apricots and cream with a touch of amber. It smells exactly like an apricot flavoured cereal bar.

On my skin: The apricots become sweeter when I apply the scent. Like I've just opened a tin of them in syrup. I also get way more than a saucerful of cream! It's an evaporated milk kind of creaminess and it stays throughout wear time. The apricots are only faint during dry down and I no longer get any of the amber.

Throw: Average
Longevity: 10 hours plus. The cream stays around forever! I've applied this a couple of times in an evening and still had traces of it left the following morning.

Summary: Creamy apricots with a smidge of amber.

Verdict: This is an extremely foodie, comforting kind of scent. I like to wear this at home where I can frequently huff my wrists and inhale all the cream! I don't think I would ever wear Gideon in public though as I'm worried it may come across as sour milk to Other People. Not full bottle worthy, but I'll happily use up my vial indoors :)

[Review] Haus of Gloi - Cosy Sweater

Collection: General Catalogue
Status: Available
Purchased: 1ml sample vial direct from HoG

Notes: Pale skin musk, faded perfume, Egyptian amber, softly burning nag champa incense and a fine aged vanilla

In the vial: Soft nag champa with a dollop of musk and a touch of vanilla. The second I sniffed this in the vial, I immediately wanted to slather myself in it!

On my skin: It immediately becomes a lot muskier. The incense wafts around me, but it's so gentle and unobtrusive. I've read reviews of Cosy Sweater that says its a head shop scent, but I don't get that from it. It's snuggly and comforting and just... perfect. I also get occasional faint wafts of a floral note, but I'm not sure what it is. Plus, and this might sound bizarre, I can sense heat radiating from my skin when I sniff my wrists. It's extraordinary.

Throw: Average. My only grumble with this scent is that sometimes I wish it didn't wear so close. That said, I've been kind of stingy with my applications because I don't want my vial to run out until I can get my hands on a full size bottle.
Longevity: This lasts around six hours on my skin.

Summary: Soft, musky incense with a dash of vanilla. Never has a scent been so aptly named. I genuinely feel as though I'm wrapped up my favourite cosy sweater whenever I wear this.

Verdict: I've been wearing this scent most nights when I go to bed recently. After a pretty blah week, it's genuinely calmed me down and helped me drift off to sleep. I actually received another HoG haul today from their Fall 2015 re-stock, but I don't think I can ration my Cosy Sweater vial for much longer so I shall be placing an order for a full size bottle in the next few days :)

[Review] Smelly Yeti - We are as Gods

Collection: General Catalogue
Status: Available
Purchased: 1.3ml sample bottle through Ajevie's Circles

Notes: And ambrosia is the food of the gods! We don't know what that tastes like, but the next closest thing is ambrosia salad: coconut, pineapple, cool whip, cream cheese, pecan, cherry, and a heaping handful of marshmallows. Is this the most accurate scent to represent a few basement dwelling evil nerds? Maybe not, but no one wants to smell like desperation and sadness. Fruity, sweet, and, feminine!

In the bottle: Pineapple! I get delicious, fresh pineapple, with a slight nuttiness to it. I can also clearly smell the cherries and coconut. It smells like a yummy cocktail!

On my skin: When first applied my skin completely amps the cherries. (Fortunately though, for once, they don't turn into that artificial Sharpie like cherry!) The pineapple takes a backseat but I still get occasional wafts of it as I move my arms. It becomes a lot creamier as it dries and fades into a soft cloud of coconut and cream. Luscious!

Throw: High.
Longevity: This lasts around five hours on my skin.

Summary: A tropical fruit salad, drying down to creamy coconut.

Verdict: I really like this scent! And it's becoming more apparent with every bottle and vial I test, that anything with coconut or pineapple in it is a winner to my nose. I may end up plumping for a full bottle of this at some point.

Collection: Limited Edition - Summer Pastel
Status: Unavailable
Purchased: 1ml decant from Ajevie's Circles

Notes: Essential Oil from the zest of Pink Grapefruit and Caribbean Grapefruit, a touch of white honey, a little pink sugar, a tiny drop of white patchouli all infused into Crystalline Vanilla.

In the vial: This is seriously sugary grapefruit. I get a little bit of honey, but mostly this smells like grapefruit flavoured icing sugar. It's very sweet.

On my skin: The grapefruit becomes a lot stronger, but also less sugary. The vanilla comes through shortly after and at this point it's a girly scent I would have loved to wear as a teenager. As it dries, though, it softens and becomes a lot more sophisticated. It's powdery vanilla with a hint of grapefruit; less sugary but still sweet.

Throw: Moderate
Longevity: This only lasts a couple of hours on my skin and then I get nothing.

Summary: Sugary grapefruit. Super girly to begin with, softening to a powdery, feminine scent.

Verdict: This doesn't last long enough to warrant a full bottle purchase, were I able to find one available, but I'll use up my vial.

[Review] Haus of Gloi - Pumpkin Queen

Collection: Autumn Collection 2015
Status Currently still available
Purchased: 1ml sample vial direct from HoG

Notes: Gentle hay pillows, pumpkin, ripe peaches dusted with clove and nutmeg, dried summer herbs, and lastly, a lovely crown of amber.

In the vial: I get a caramel like pumpkin, with a bit of spice and a hint of dried herbs.

On my skin: This becomes a lot spicier. I get a fair bit of pumpkin, but the cloves are massively in my face. While wet this isn't so bad. As it dries though, yikes. The first time I wore this, I put it on before I walked to work and throughout the whole of the fifteen minute journey all I could smell was curry. Like I'd literally tipped the whole of my spice cupboard all over me. I was all ready for scrubbing this off the second I got to work, until the first person I saw declared how awesome I smelled. All morning people were asking me why they could smell cinnamon (the cloves, I guess) and telling me I smelled good enough to eat. To my nose though, all I could smell was curry. The second time I tested it out, the first thing my partner said when I walked into the living room was, "you smell like curry!" So nope, this isn't getting a third test... it's going straight into my de-stash tub.

Throw: Very high. To the point where people could smell it as they entered the room I was in.
Longevity: Also high. Isn't that always the case with scents you don't like?

Summary: Yummy pumpkin and cinnamon to some folks' nose; just straight up curry to mine.

Verdict: I wholeheartedly do not wish to smell like curry when I haven't had the pleasure of devouring one. De-stashing this one.

Collection: Summer Craves [2015]
Status: Unavailable
Purchased: 1ml decant from a Sunday Swap on IMAM

Notes: Burning frankincense and myrrh, rich red musk, and fraises des bois.

In the vial: I get green strawberries with a hint of something woody. I catch a slight whiff of incense every now and then, but mostly it's just woodland strawberries.

On my skin: This becomes quite musky and the wood note becomes a lot stronger. The strawberries fade considerably but I can definitely still detect them. As it dries I get a lot of incense and smoke, before this becomes all woodland strawberries again with a hint of musk. My partner hugged me around the hour mark and declared, "you smell like one of your incense sticks, mmmm!" The longer I wear this the sweeter the strawberries become and the combination of them and the red musk are a match made in heaven. I adore this scent!

Throw: Pretty high throughout. (It wafts around me to begin with, and then I get frequent whiffs when I move my arms.)
Longevity: 6 hours on my skin.

Summary: Woodland strawberries with a lot of musky incense.

Verdict: Easily one of my all time favourite scents. I wear this a lot at bedtime. It's the perfect scent for snuggling up at night while I let my brain switch off and think only about sleep :) I would without doubt buy a full size bottle of this if I could.

Collection: Summer Craves [2015]
Status: Unavailable
Purchased: 1ml decant from a Sunday Swap on IMAM

Notes: Rain, woodland strawberries, fresh water, petitgrain, osmanthus, clover, and smooth amber.

In the vial: This is fresh and clean. It's rain water with a hint of something floral. I detect no strawberries whatsoever, but I love what I'm smelling all the same.

On my skin: the watery floral scent remains for a couple of minutes, and then it turns slightly fruity. I get a little bit of strawberry, but for the most part there's a diluted freshness wafting around me. Around the ten minute mark this turns incredibly sweet on my skin and the strawberry becomes a whole lot stronger. This is all sugar but without being too sugary. How is that even possible? I get frequent wafts of jelly beans (not an artificial jelly bean... but like sticking your nose straight into a Jelly Belly jar), for about two hours, but every time I put my wrist to my nose, I get freshly picked strawberries. It's incrediblee.

Throw: Moderate
Longevity: 5 hours on my skin.

Summary: Fresh and watery to begin with, drying down to sweet, sugary strawberries.

Verdict: I really like this one and would definitely purchase a full bottle if I could. I love what I sniff in the vial, but that dry down is exquisite.

Collection: Permanent Blend
Status: Available
Purchased: 1ml sample vial direct from Possets

Notes: That gingerbread house from your childhood? Well the neighborhood has changed and now it sports a red light out front! Very foody, very sweet, very sexy, very grown up in a sex kitten way. This is European Gingerbread given an American Cajun jolt with the spices, cher! Mmmm. Unisex, sexy-sex, and wow. Oh, the sign outside does say,"Ho Ho Ho House". Heh. You might end up with a whole new reputation. Sweet, foody, gourmand, spicy.

In the vial: Oh my! This is the most delicious gingerbread ever. Buttery, velvety, creamy. It's gorgeous.

On my skin: It becomes a tiny bit spicy. I get nutmeg and cinnamon from this, but the delicious gingerbread is still dominant. As it dries it becomes a lot creamier, but I get the occasional waft of spice.

Throw: High
Longevity: 8+ hours

Summary: Just as the notes described - this is definitely a sexy, grown-up version of gingerbread. Creamy and sweet, with a little kick from the spices. Gorgeous!

Verdict: Another one I will probably pick up a full size of. I can't wait to wear this leading up to Christmas!
